Chess matches, basketball pick-up games, study hall, laughter with friends, and so much more. Resident Life at OVS gives boarding students the opportunity to live and learn among their peers with a support of a warm family-like environment and caring dorm parents. OVS enrolls about 80 boarding students in grades 3-12 on its two campuses as well as 230 day students in grades PK-12.
For our residents, living away from home for the first time can be exciting and, maybe, a bit scary. Fortunately, students quickly come to consider OVS a second home. Some of the strongest friendships form when roommates are from different parts of the world. These friendships form when students discover that no matter how different our backgrounds, we all have much in common.
During the week, boarding students eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner in our dining halls. The dress code is casual, except for nights when we have formal Dress Dinner, which is sometimes followed by a student art exhibit or guest lecture. On most nights, students have study hall and the opportunity to collaborate on assignments with peers.
On weekends, there are planned activities to add a little fun and relaxation to the school week. Lower Campus residents might stroll around downtown Ojai while Upper Campus teens might visit the Getty Museum in Los Angeles or hit the surf in Ventura. There also are school dances, karaoke parties, and down time to watch movies in the common room with friends. One thing is certain: as a resident student, you will make deep, enduring friendships that will last long after you have graduated from Ojai Valley School.
