February 4, 2021 – Last month students in grades PK-12 returned for in-person instruction. We believe being together is in the best interest of our students, providing them hands-on learning experiences and interaction with peers.
But we also know that in a pandemic our ability to continue in-person classes hinges on everyone following the health protocols. Please join us in slowing the spread of the virus by wearing masks, social distancing and washing hands.
As we start the second semester, classes remain small and are being held outdoors as much as possible. We are keeping it safe and excited to be together again!

Teachers will be conducting classes using GoogleMeet, and Moodle will once again provide students with class assignments, due dates and grades. New students will be provided guidance on accessing these platforms.
In first through fifth grade, students will begin each day by logging into the Seesaw student application. Each day will begin with a virtual meeting at 8 a.m, and the meeting will remain open all day. When it’s time for a co-curricular class, the teacher will join the student meeting, and they will attend all of their courses as if they were at school. Tutoring and time for independent work are also built into the schedule. (See sample schedules).

Caitlin Bozek, RN, BSN, is the newest member of the OVS Health Center staff. Raised in Utah, she returned to California years later to pursue a nursing career in her native Santa Barbara. Along with her nursing degree, Ms. Bozek also holds a BS in Health Promotion and Education. Transitioning into the OVS Health Center was a natural fit, she says. “I joined OVS because of their philosophy on education, (and) the staff is so friendly and down to earth. And I want to help the students when they are in need of medical attention, and teach them healthy lifestyles.” Ms. Bozek’s husband, Andy, is also a nurse; they have 3 children. In their free time they enjoy camping, snowboarding, surfing, hiking and just about anything outdoors.
Aaron Newlow, RN, also joined OVS this summer. He holds degrees in kinesiology and nursing, and attended CSUN, San Diego State, and the University of Oklahoma. Prior to the OVS Health Center, he worked in sports medicine and as a hospital nurse. Mr. Newlow loves wood working, gardening, and playing guitar, as well as surfing, hiking and playing with his to daughters. His wife, Della, is an OVS alum.
